|Totaro Leads Mustangs To Win|
Andrew Totaro booted in two goals and added an assist as The Master’s College tallied six first-half goals on the way to a 7-1 thrashing of Simpson Saturday afternoon on Reese Field. It was the Mustangs’ third straight win and lifted their record to 3-1-2.
Totaro, who has tallied goals in each of the past three matches, scored his club’s third and fifth goals of the opening half in which the Mustangs scored six times in the first 29 minutes. Totaro leads the Mustangs in scoring with 10 points (four goals, two assists).
Senior Brian Gardner got the Mustangs on the board in the game’s first minute on assists from Joel Peluffo and Totaro, and then just over a minute later (2:05 mark) he and Peluffo assisted on Victor Martinez’ first goal of the year.
Totaro’s initial goal, pushing the advantage to 3-0, came at the 12:21 mark and was assisted by Gardner. Gardner is just behind Totaro with eight points on two goals and four assists. Just over five minutes later, David Myers made it 4-0 on an unassisted tally.
The onslaught continued less than two minutes later at the 19:27 mark when Totaro scored on Peluffo’s third assist of the match. Jader Santos completed the big first half with 15:53 left in the period, scoring off Marlon Lindo’s assist.
The only blemish on a nearly perfect half was a late Red Hawk goal, scored by Kerry Meehan with 49 seconds left before intermission. For the second consecutive match, Mustang goalie Andrew Bussell was rarely tested, allowing just the one goal and recording no saves.
He was relieved in the second half by Joey Mackey who didn’t notch a save, either. Compared to the goalfest over the first 45 minutes, the second half was a snoozer by comparison. The Mustangs capped off the season-best scoring effort when Martinez scored his second goal of the match with just 2:23 remaining on Peluffo’s career-best fourth assist.
The high-scoring efforts over the past two days should serve as tune-ups for GSAC play that begins next Saturday when the Mustangs travel to San Diego to take on Pt. Loma Nazarene.
