|Shots Go To Waste In Overtime Loss|
Playing its fourth overtime in eight matches, The Master’s College lost its first extra period match of the season, falling 2-1 to Fresno Pacific in double overtime Wednesday evening. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak, dropping the Mustangs to 4-2-2.
The Sunbirds’ Mihailo Jovanovic’s goal 3:42 into the second, 10-minute overtime period capped the hosts’ come-from-behind win. Jovanovic’s game-winner, which beat Mustang goalie Andrew Bussell, found the right side of the net off a corner kick.
The extra period was forced when Sunbird Gustavo Da Silva knotted the game with 9:45 left to play. He dribbled across the top of the box and shot the ball to the left corner of the goal.
The Mustangs grabbed the lead in the match’s 32nd minute when junior forward Joel Peluffo took a pass from Fabrice Gautrat and shot one by Sunbird goalie Gildardo Villaruel. It was Peluffo’s second goal of the season.
Peluffo’s shot was one of a whopping 23 that the Mustangs took on the evening, outshooting the Sunbirds by an eye-popping 13, but none of the others went in and the overwhelming advantage went for naught.
Following two days off, the Mustangs go from the frying pan into the fire when they play at No. 7 California Baptist Saturday in Riverside.
