Joel Peluffo notched a hat trick and The Master's College snapped a two-game losing skid with a 3-1 victory over Hope International Tuesday afternoon on Reese Field.
The victory in TMC's conference home opener boosted the Mustangs' overall record to 5-3-2 but, more importantly, evened their GSAC slate at 2-2. Meanwhile, the Royals fell to 5-6 and 0-4.
Peluffo, who had a trio of three-goal performances last year en route to a team-high 14 goals, started his big day at the 12:41 mark of the first half with an unassisted tally.
Just over 20 minutes later (33:16), the junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, made it 2-0, again in unassisted fashion.
Peluffo polished off the hat trick at the 41:20 mark of the opening half with David Alegria assisting. Peluffo now leads the squad with five goals and 15 points.
That was all the offense the squad generated on the afternoon but it was more than enough against a Royal squad that rarely challenged the Mustang defense and goalie Andrew Bussell.
Bussell kept the Royals off the scoreboard in the first half but they broke through against the sophomore with 21:47 left to play on a Manny Plascencia goal. Bussell finished with just one save and was relieved over the final 18:35 by Joey Mackey.
The Mustangs stay at home for their next match as they host San Diego Christian on Saturday in a 3:00pm start on Reese Field.
