There are many reasons why The Masterís College menís soccer team is on the cusp of missing the GSAC Tournament just one year after capturing it on the way to a second-place finish at the NAIA National Tournament.

But, on Wednesday afternoon on Reese Field, a former teammate turned foe became the most recent reason why the Mustangs may not make the postseason. Doug Harrell, who played for the Mustangs in 2007, scored a goal one minute into play and Westmont made it stand up for a 1-0 win over TMC.

The loss was the Mustangsí third in their past four matches (6-6-3, 3-5-1) and dropped them into a precarious tie for seventh place in GSAC play. Their hold on that spot, which would qualify them for the conference tournament, along with Hope International is very tenuous, considering that Pt. Loma Nazarene (9th place) and Concordia (10th place) lurk just two points and one point behind, respectively.

Harrell, who tallied 21 points (7 goals, 7 assists) and helped the Mustangs win the NCCAA National Championship, pushed the ball past goalie Andrew Bussell with just 60 seconds gone for what proved to be the match-winner. Ben Gordon assisted on the goal.

Once again, it wasnít about getting shots off (the Mustangs had a 15-9 advantage) but the Warriors put more on goal (6-4) and made one of those count.

After being shut out for the fourth time in 2010, the Mustangs hope to put some points on the board and clinch a spot in the GSAC Tournament when they travel to La Mirada on Saturday to face Biola. Kickoff is slated for 7:00pm.
