|Crusading Past The Mustangs|
Exploding for seven runs in the third inning, William Carey of Mississippi cruised by The Master’s College 9-3 Friday afternoon in Placerita Canyon. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 5-3.
Blanked over the first two innings by Mustang starter Tyler Bersano, the Crusaders pounded the senior righthander for seven runs on eight hits in the third and were never threatened after that. With the exception of one double, all of the hits in the frames were singles, four of them producing runs.
The Crusaders tallied two more runs in the top of the sixth, Bersano’s last inning. In his six innings of work, Bersano (1-1) surrendered 12 hits and seven earned runs.
The Crusaders’ big inning erased a 2-0 lead that the Mustangs had built in the bottom of the second. J. T. Adams earned a leadoff walk and moved up 90 feet when Joe Riddle singled to right field. Cody Harris’ fielder’s choice advanced Adams to third from where he scored on a balk. Moments later, Bryan Lucas’ single up the middle plated Harris for a two-run advantage.
The Mustangs’ final run came in the sixth when Adams drew a two-out walk and scored when Riddle lashed a double to center field. Riddle, along with Lucas, had two hits apiece as the Mustangs managed just five hits.
Fortunately, the Mustangs won’t have too much time to dwell on this one as they resume their weekend series with the Crusaders in a doubleheader Saturday that starts at 11am on Reese Field.
