6.00.00 Key Positions Filled by Non-Work Study Students
It is recognized that not all positions can be filled by Work Study students. These instances must be kept to a minimum and as such will be handled on an exception basis only. Generally, the exception will be that the experience, talent and/or time commitment necessary to perform the tasks required does not exist among available Work Study students.

The approval process for obtaining a non-Work Study student employee exception is as follows:
  1. When all possibilities for filling the position with a Work Study student have been exhausted, the Manager of Student Employment will review all requests for a non-Work Study student to fill the opening.
    • The written request will include the position, department, and the estimated payroll expenditure.
    • All non-Work Study student employee exceptions will be on a semester by semester basis and in no way guarantee that a student without Work Study will be able to continue to work for successive semesters.
  2. Upon approval, one copy of the written request will be given to the Department, one copy will be given to the Controller, and the Office of Student Employment will maintain the original.

6.00.05 Posting Process
After a non-Work Study Student Employee exception has been approved, the position will be posted on the Internet job board until a qualified applicant is found. Departments are encouraged to submit the names of students that they feel are qualified

6.00.10 Application Process
Students may submit a student employment application to the OSE. Applicant’s names will be referred to the hiring department which will then conduct interviews and select an employee. 6.00.15 Required Paperwork
A Temporary Student Employee Hiring Form must be submitted to the OSE prior to the student’s beginning work. Also, it is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure that the student completes all necessary paperwork before allowing the student to begin working.

Each semester, students are hired to supervise the dorm lounges during the weekend evenings. This opportunity for extra employment is open to all students on Student Leadership Staff. Students are chosen based upon their demonstrated maturity and availability. Interested students should contact their Resident Assistant for further information.

6.05.05 Required Paperwork
It is the responsibility of the Head Resident Assistant of each dorm to ensure that all lounge duty workers complete the necessary payroll paperwork within 3 business days of their first work day. The Head RA should notify the OSE by phone whenever a lounge duty worker is to be added. This will allow the OSE to contact the employee and to make sure that all the paperwork is completed. Lounge Duty workers must complete a Temporary Student Employee Hiring Form.

6.10.00 Intramural Sports Referees
Intramural Sports are a part of student activities that many students enjoy. Intramural sport referees are hired in a paid position. 6.25.00 Babysitting Registry
Students interested in babysitting/tutoring opportunities should sign up to be part of the Babysitting Registry at the beginning of each semester. This listing includes the contact information and the availability of each of the students on the list. Each year, members of the Santa Clarita community request many copies of the Registries. Being listed on the Registry enables students to earn additional money while building relationships with local families. You can register by accessing the on-line form at www.masters.edu.
