The Program
Over the years, politicians have offered solutions for the challenges facing our nation through a more expansive federal government. Arthur Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute, has noted "It starts with smooth-talking politicians offering seemingly innocuous compromises, and an opportunistic leadership that chooses not to stand up for America’s enduring principles of freedom and entrepreneurship." And while national public opinion polling continues to find that Americans distrust our political system and individual representatives in Congress, the breadth of government continues to expand.
The economic problems of today are having a serious impact on families and the private sector. The impulse to take action in response to these problems creates the opportunity for proposals that redistribute money from some and spend it on others; a policy of wealth redistribution that has never worked. Some political leaders and advocates have attempted to justify their calls for this fundamental restructuring of the American economic system by using Scripture to support their positions.
There is a critical need to objectively confront policy solutions such as these with informed analysis, but also through the lens of moral values inspired and informed by Christian faith. This forum brings together two leading thinkers to discuss the relationship of Christian faith, values, economics, and the future of American public policy.
