We desire to challenge each individual to view his participation as more than just physical exercise. We believe that competition raises many opportunities for us and others to look through a window into our hearts. The manner in which you conduct yourself on the court/field is a reflection of your character and is ultimately a spiritual issue. Our goal is that each of you may have this focus as you step on the court to participate so that we all might enjoy the lntramural season and the fellowship surrounding it to its fullest potential. "For you were called to freedom, brothers; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." (Galatians 5:13)
Qualifications for playoffs will be based upon each team earning at least a "B" Rating throughout the season. If at any time during the playoffs a team's season average dips below a "B" rating, the team will not be allowed to advance any further, nor win a championship!! Officials as well as a designated observer will rate each team on each game played. A team's rating can be affected by the actions of one team member. The purpose of the this rating system is for increased accountability. Our goal is not to "catch" anyone, but to call each of you to a higher standard!!

Below, is a rough sketch of what constitutes receiving a specific rating:

"A"-Excellent Conduct and Sportsmanship: Players cooperate fully with the officials and other team members. The captain may calmly converse with officials at appropriate times regarding rule interpretations or concerns. Players get along with the opposing team without any disputes, incidents, or verbal exchanges. The captain also has full control of his/her teammates and the fans on his sidelines.

"B"-Acceptable Conduct and Sportsmanship: Team members offer some disagreement with the game officials, but allow their captain to talk to officials at the appropriate time. Players are refraining themselves and dealing with their disagreements and frustrations in a proper manner.

"C"-Unsatisfactory Conduct and Sportsmanship: Team members display verbal dissent towards game officials and/or the opposing team on the court and/or from the sidelines. Minor dissension or frustration is somewhat evident among teammates. The team captain exhibits responsibility by taking necessary steps to control his players and correct the situation.

"D"-Unruly Conduct and Sportsmanship: Players are constantly making comments to the officials and/or opposing team. The captain exhibits little or no ability to control or correct his team or their fans. Technical fouls have been enforced, resulting in a 5-minute "penalty box" situation. Any player receiving a technical must meet with the Director of Intramural Sports before participating in his next game.

"E"-Blatant and Uninhibited Misconduct: A team or any one of its players is completely uncooperative with his captain or game officials. Captain himself is out of control or multiple technical fouls have been called on one team. Any physical confrontation between opponents outside the bounds of the rules (i.e. fighting, pushing). Any use of profanity in any form. Any team who has a player ejected from a game will receive no higher than a "E" Rating for that contest. Any ejected player must meet with the Director of Intramural Sports before participating again.
